Bill C-383 Receives Unanimous Support at Second Reading

Ottawa, ON – Bill C-383;The Transboundary Waters Protection Act, a Private Members Bill put forth by Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, received unanimous support by the House of Commons as it came to a vote at Second Reading.

Bill C-383 was introduced to the House on December 13th, 2011 and since then has been supported by the Government while also receiving support from opposition parties. The bill will ensure that all transboundary waters under federal jurisdiction are protected from bulk export while also respecting provincial provisions that are already in place.

“I am very pleased that Bill C-383 has passed Second Reading with a unanimous vote in support of this legislation,” said Miller. “I look forward to continued support and input on this bill as it moves to committee and on to Third Reading.”

Bill C-383 has been referred to the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development for further examination and debate.
