Bob and Carol Mitchell Have Private Session in the Memorial Chamber of Centre Block

Ottawa, ON – Recently, Bob and Carol Mitchell of Owen Sound had an opportunity to look at the “Book of Remembrance” during a private session in the Memorial Chamber of the Parliament Buildings.

Bob and Carol, the parents of Cpl. Robert Thomas James Mitchell, have travelled to Ottawa to attend the National Day of Honour ceremony to be held for those who served during Canada’s 12 year mission in Afghanistan. Cpl. Mitchell served in Afghanistan and was killed during an insurgent attack on October 3rd, 2006.

Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, met Bob and Carol for lunch and arranged to have the Memorial Chamber closed to the public for Bob and Carol to have a private session where they could view the “Book of Remembrance” where Cpl. Mitchell’s name is listed. The Memorial Chamber is located in the Centre Block of the Parliament Buildings and serves as a symbolic representation of the sacrifices made by Canadians who serve in conflicts throughout history and the present. Books of Remembrance are kept and contain the names of all Canadians who have been killed in armed conflict.

Bob and Carol will remain in Ottawa for the National Day of Honour ceremony that is to take place on May 9th. A photo of Mr. Miller, Bob and Carol is being distributed with this release.
