Dedication of Park for Cpl. Robert Thomas James Mitchell

Owen Sound, ON – Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, commends the City of Owen Sound on the dedication of a park in honour of Cpl. Robert Thomas James Mitchell.

Cpl. Robert Mitchell Park will be located on 2nd St. ‘A’ West in Owen Sound and will serve as a tribute to Cpl. Mitchell and his service to Canada and the sacrifice he made for his country. Cpl. Mitchell was killed during an insurgent attack in 2006 in Afghanistan. He is one of the 158 Canadian Forces members who were killed in action during the mission in Afghanistan.

“I am pleased to see that City of Owen Sound will be honouring the memory of Cpl. Mitchell and paying tribute to his service to our country,” said Miller. “On behalf of all residents of Bruce and Grey Counties and indeed all Canadians I thank Cpl. Mitchell for his service and offer my condolences to his family and friends including his parents Bob and Carol. He will not be forgotten.”

Mr. Miller recently met with Bob and Carol Mitchell in Ottawa on the National Day of Honour for the mission in Afghanistan. Mr. Miller arranged for the Mitchell family to have a private session in the Memorial Chamber in the Centre Block of the Parliament Buildings. Bob and Carol had the opportunity to look upon the Book of Remembrance where Cpl. Mitchell’s name is listed.
