Federal Government Accepting Applications for Canada Summer Jobs Initiative

Ottawa, ON – Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, is encouraging local employers to apply for Federal Government funding through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) initiative to employ young workers for the summer.

The CSJ initiative helps students gain the skills and experience they need to be successful, now and in the future, while earning money for the upcoming school year. Meanwhile, it helps employers create much-needed summer job opportunities for students while strengthening the local economy.

The deadline for CSJ has changed and is much earlier than in previous years. This year, applications will be available online beginning December 2nd and must be submitted by January 31st, 2014. These new timelines mean that successful employers will be notified sooner and have more time to recruit students.

“I strongly encourage all local employers that are looking to hire a summer student to apply for funding through the Canada Summer Jobs initiative,” said Miller. “Summer employment allows students to develop vital work skills, earn money and become an active member of the workforce. Furthermore, these summer jobs can often translate into apprenticeships and full-time employment.”
