Federal Government Freezes EI Rates

Ottawa, ON – Recently, the Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, announced that Employment Insurance (EI) rates that employers and employees pay will be frozen for the next three years.

Until 2016, EI rates will remain at or below the 2013 level ($1.88 per $100 of insurable earnings). This will help to support small business and will provide a tax-relief to Canadian families.

“Freezing EI rates in Canada until 2016 is something that will benefit families and businesses in Bruce and Grey counties and indeed across the country,” said Miller. “This will also support job creation and will continue Canada’s business-led economic growth.”

Freezing EI rates is projected to leave $660 million in the pockets of job creators and workers in 2014 alone, compared to what they would have otherwise paid.
