Federal Government Supports Project at Tara Legion Cenotaph

Owen Sound, ON – Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, is pleased to announce that the Federal Government will be provided funding to support a local project at the Tara Legion Cenotaph.

Mr. Miller recently informed the Legion that the Federal Government will be providing $24,866 to support work to repair the cenotaph. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #383, the Tara Branch, requested funding through Veteran’s Affairs Canada in the amount of $24,886 and have therefore secured 100% of the amount requested.

Work on the cenotaph will involve excavation of the site and repairs to cracked areas of the monument. The monument currently leans due differential settlement of the foundation. Water penetration and freezing has also lead to the deterioration of the concrete base. Finally, work will also include the installation of paving stones, four new benches and new floodlights.

“I am very pleased that the Federal Government will be supporting important work at the Tara Cenotaph and commend the Tara Legion for going through with this project,” said Miller. “The Legion will be receiving 100% of the amount that they requested to support a project that will honour Veterans from Tara and indeed all of Canada for their service to our country.”
