Miller Mourns the Loss of Jim Flaherty

Ottawa, ON – Recently, Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, learned of the passing of former Minister of Finance, the Honourable Jim Flaherty. Miller stated the following:

“Jim was a close personal friend of mine and I know that he will be dearly missed by all that had the opportunity to work alongside him. A couple of years ago I had the opportunity to travel with Jim to Ireland as he received an honorary degree. I have many fond memories of him and am very saddened to hear of his passing. He was the greatest Finance Minister that this country has ever seen and his fiscal policies earned the respect of the entire world. My deepest condolences go out to Jim’s wife Christine and his children John, Galen and Quinn, at this difficult time.”

Mr. Flaherty was first elected to the House of Commons in 2006 after serving as an Ontario MPP from 1995 to 2005. He was the only Finance Minister to serve under Prime Minister Harper and is one of the longest serving Finance Ministers in Canadian history. He recently stepped down from the position on March 18th, 2014.
