MP Larry Miller Encourages Community-based Projects to Apply for Funding through New Horizons for Seniors Program

Ottawa, ON – Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, is encouraging community-groups, municipal governments and other organizations to apply for funding through a recent Call for Proposals to fund approximately 20 community-based pilot projects aimed at addressing seniors’ social isolation.

Funding for these projects will be through the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP). Projects will be eligible to receive between $50,000 and $100,000 of federal funding over a maximum of 24 months which will be matched with funding from other sources.

“Protecting and supporting our seniors through community-based programs and events is certainly quite important for everyone in Bruce and Grey counties and indeed for all Canadians,” said Miller. “I strongly encourage all eligible organizations to apply for funding through this program to support a project that will in turn support our local seniors.”

The NHSP is a federal grants and contributions program that supports projects that are led or inspired by seniors. Since 2006, the program has funded more than 11,200 projects in communities across the country. This Call for Proposals will fund 20 community-based projects. The application period began on October 3rd, 2013 and will remain open until November 13th, 2013.
