MP Larry Miller Reminds Local Employers to Apply for Canada Summer Jobs Initiative

Ottawa, ON – Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, is reminding local employers to apply for Federal Government funding through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) initiative to employ young workers for the summer.

Through CSJ, funding will be made available to not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses. Young people aged 15-30, who are full-time students and intend to return to school in the fall can qualify for these job opportunities.
“I strongly encourage all local employers that are looking to hire a summer student to apply for funding through the Canada Summer Jobs initiative,” said Miller. “Summer employment allows students to develop vital work skills, earn money for the upcoming school year and become an active member for the workforce. Furthermore, these summer jobs can often translate into apprenticeships and full-time employment.”

CSJ provides $107.5 million across all 308 federal constituencies to create student employment. Last summer, the initiative created close to 100 student jobs in the riding of Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound. Canada Sumer Jobs 2014 is expected to create approximately 35,000 jobs while helping employers address skills shortages.

Applications for the CSJ are now available online at www.servicecanada.gc.ca/csj and must be submitted by January 31st, 2014.
