MP Larry Miller Returns to Ottawa for Fall Session of Parliament

Ottawa, ON – Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, has returned to Ottawa for the Fall Session of Parliament. The House of Commons will return on Monday, September 15th, 2014 and will be in session until an adjournment in mid-December for the Christmas break.

There are several important issues that Mr. Miller will be following very closely this session. Among these issues is the Sauble Beach Land Claim. Mr. Miller has arranged for a briefing with staff at the Department of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC). This briefing will take place on Tuesday, September 16th.

“It is my expectation that Federal Government negotiators will be attending the briefing tomorrow,” said Miller. “I am hoping to discuss several aspects of the land claim and press the department for all relevant information related to the claim. I have many questions that so far have gone unanswered. I am hoping that this will change after tomorrow’s briefing.”

Furthermore, there are several legislative initiatives that will be focused on this session such as new firearms legislation, the study on the Transportation of Dangerous Goods that is currently before the Standing Committee on Transportation, Infrastructure and Communities, the Reform Act, conflict in the Middle-East and more.

“There are several pieces of legislation that will be coming before the House such as a new bill on firearms licensing as well as the Second Reading of the Reform Act,” said Miller. “I expect that it will certainly be a busy session.”
