MP Larry Miller Seeking Information from Department on Sauble Land Claim

Ottawa, ON – Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, has been actively pressing the Federal Department of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development to provide all information and details related to the Sauble Beach Land Claim by the Saugeen Ojibway First Nation (SON), but at this time his request has been completely stonewalled.

Mr. Miller has been working with the Office of the Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development to press the department for more information but the request made by the Minister’s office to the department has also gone unanswered. A very clear distinction should be made between the Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development and the Department of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development. These are different offices.

“I have been trying for some time now to get more information from the department’s lawyers and staff in relation to the land claim at Sauble Beach,” said Miller. “I have been working with staff in the Minister’s office who have also been trying to press the department for more information. It would appear that since the department will not disclose details to me, or even to staff in the Minister’s office, they have something to hide. All I am asking for is all pertinent information to be made available.”
