MP Larry Miller Welcomes New Horizons for Seniors Funding in Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound


Ottawa, ON – Larry Miller, Member of Parliament for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, is pleased to announce that 6 organizations in Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound have received, or will be receiving, a total of $132,450 for projects aimed to better the lives of seniors in their communities through the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP).


The NHSP is a federal grants and contributions program that supports projects that are led or inspired by seniors who seek to improve the lives of others in their communities. Through this program, organizations may receive up to $25,000 in grant funding. To be eligible for funding, the project must address one or more of the programs five objectives: volunteering, mentoring, expanding awareness of elder abuse, social participation, and capital assistance. Eligible recipients include: not-for-profit organizations, community-based coalitions, educational institutions, public health institutions, municipal governments, and First Nations groups.


Organizations receiving funding include:


  • Markdale Seniors – $12,000
  • The Salvation Army, Wiarton – $24,316
  • Alzheimer Society Grey-Bruce – $25,000
  • Hanover Masonic Lodge Temple- $25,000
  • Hanover Lawn Bowling Club- $21,134


A sixth organization has also received funding but did not consent to have their name included in this release.


“Year after year, I am pleased to see organizations in Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound receive funding through this important program,” said Miller. “This funding will allow these organizations to complete important projects that better the lives of seniors in communities throughout Bruce and Grey counties.”
