MP Larry Miller Presents Peace Tower Flag to Family of Fred Jones

Owen Sound, ON – Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, presented a Canadian flag that was flown on the Peace Tower of the Canadian Parliament Buildings to the family of Mr. Frederick Andrew Walker Jones.

Mr. Jones was a well-respected resident of Cape Croker, Ontario and a member of the Chippewas of Nawash First Nation. He was also a Canadian Veteran and served his country with distinction. Mr. Jones was approaching his 100th birthday at the time of his passing.

Mr. Miller sends his condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Jones and expresses his gratitude to Mr. Jones for his service to the country.

“I was very saddened to hear of Fred’s passing,” said Miller. “Fred was an active member of his community who served this country with distinction. I am honoured to be able to present a flag that was flown on the Peace Tower to Fred’s family in commemoration of his service to Canada.”

Mr. Miller was made aware of Mr. Jones’s 100th birthday by a family friend. Mr. Miller was able to work with officials at the Parliament Buildings to secure a flag to give Mr. Jones on his 100th birthday in recognition of his commitment and service to the country. However, due to Mr. Jones’s untimely passing, Mr. Miller presented the flag to the Jones family in commemoration of Fred.

Mr. Miller presented the flag to the family of Mr. Jones before his visitation. This was a private presentation to the family.
