National Recreational Trails Program “Open For Business”

Ottawa, ON – Recently, the Federal Government announced that the National Recreational Trails Program will be “open for business”. Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, is encouraging all local trail organizations to submit project proposals for funding through this program.

The National Recreational Trails Program has been created through a partnership between the Government of Canada and the National Trails Coalition (NTC). Through the program, $10 million will be made available between 2014 and 2016 to help expand and rehabilitate Canada’s walking, running, cross-country skiing, biking, snowmobile, all-terrain vehicle, trail systems. Funding for the program was announced as part of the 2014 Federal budget.

“We are very fortunate in Bruce and Grey counties to have great trail systems for walking, hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, as well as snowmobiling and all-terrain vehicles,” said Miller. “I strongly encourage all local trail organizations to submit project proposals to support projects that will benefit our local trail systems.”

Trail organizations can now submit project proposals for the next 44 days. Applications must be submitted directly to the National Trails Coalition as it will be the responsibility of the NTC to select and approve projects. Between 150 and 200 projects are expected to be supported across the country through this program.
