Miller Participates in Provincial Health Study

Owen Sound, Ontario - Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound participates in the Ontario Health Study.

“The participation of Ontarians in this study will be instrumental in assisting medical researchers in determining what causes chronic disease such as cancer or heart disease and will help doctors diagnose and treat future generations of patients,” said Miller.

Miller spent approximately two hours at the Owen Sound assessment centre going through their test procedures. Their website, www.ontariohealthstudy.ca , states that the Study is a 20-year population study that aims to learn more about the causes of such chronic diseases as cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and learn how to better prevent them. The Ontario Health Study is one of five regional studies recruiting 300,000 Canadians across the country. Combined, this is the largest health study in Canada. The Ontario Health Study is being funded by several federal and provincial government agencies including the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer.

Persons interested in being part of this study can contact their call centre at 1.866.606.0686.

“This has been a great opportunity for me to see first hand what the Study is about and to promote involvement in the Study to the constituents of Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound,” said Miller.

The study is open to any Ontario resident between the ages of 35 and 69 regardless of their current health status.
