Government Announces New Hunting and Angling Advisory Panel
Ottawa, ON – Yesterday, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the organizations that will be a part of a newly created Hunting and Angling Advisory Panel, which will help inform conservation efforts in Canada.
The panel is made up of representatives from provincial and territorial hunting and angling associations, as well as conservation and related industry associations. The following organizations have been announced to sit on the advisory panel:
- Canadian Shooting Sports Association
- Fur Institute of Canada
- Newfoundland and Labrador Wildlife Federation
- Nova Scotia Federation of Anglers and Hunters
- New Brunswick Wildlife Federation
- La Fédération québécoise des chasseurs et pêcheurs
- Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters
- Manitoba Wildlife Federation
- Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation
- Alberta Fish and Game Association
- British Columbia Wildlife Federation
- Safari Club International – Canada
- Canadian Sportfishing Industry Association
- Ducks Unlimited Canada
- Wildlife Habitat Canada
- Delta Waterfowl
- Trout Unlimited
- Pacific Salmon Foundation
- Atlantic Salmon Federation
“Hunting, angling and trapping are very important to the livelihood of many residents of Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound and indeed all of Canada,” said Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey- Owen Sound. “I am very happy that grassroots organizations will be included in the decision-making process for important issues in conservation.”
The panel will provide advice to the Government of Canada on a range of federal policies, programs and activities related to conservation, hunting and fishing. Issues such as endangered species, wetland protection and nature conservation will all be studied by the panel. The panel will serve as a long-term advisory body and will report directly to the Minister of the Environment to ensure government decisions are based on science and balanced advice.
