MP Larry Miller Presents Neckties from MPs and Prime Minister Harper to Local Constituents
Ottawa, ON – Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, presented neckties from Prime Minister Stephen Harper and other Members of Parliament to Jerry and Carol Banks of Owen Sound.
Miller heard about the Banks talent of making quits out of ties through Doug Wardell, a mutual friend, who has asked Miller if he had any ties he no longer wore. This gave Miller the idea to send a request to his colleagues to recycle their unwanted ties to benefit charities. The Banks family has a very interesting project which involves taking used ties and sewing them together to make quilts. Carol has made up to 176 quilts a year and all quilts are given to charitable events or to individuals to celebrate special occasions.
“I am very proud of Jerry and Carol Banks and their project of turning unneeded ties into beautiful quilts for charitable events,” said Miller. “I am happy that the Prime Minister and many other MPs have provided ties for this great cause.”
Ties that were collected from MPs and the Prime Minister were presented to the Banks in Owen Sound on June 22, 2012. In total approximately 125 ties were given to the Banks family.
