MP Larry Miller Pleased to Welcome Senator Don Oliver to Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound for Emancipation Festival
Ottawa, ON Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, is pleased to welcome Senator Don Oliver to the riding to attend the 150th Emancipation Festival events. Senator Oliver will be taking part in various events, including the Emancipation Festival Speakers Forum at the Grey Roots Museum on Friday, August 3rd, 2012 at 6:30p.m.
For 150 years people have come to Owen Sound to take part in Emancipation Day festivities. These festivities celebrate liberty, justice, and freedom from slavery as Owen Sound was the northernmost destination and terminus of the Underground Railroad.
The Emancipation Festival has been a very proud tradition in Owen Sound, celebrating the freedom from slavery for 150 years now, said Miller. I am very happy that Senator Don Oliver will be taking part in the festivities this year. He is very proud of his Afro-Canadian heritage and is certainly a great ambassador for Afro-Canadians across the country. I am honored to be speaking on the panel with him.
The Emancipation Festival will run from August 3rd- August 5th 2012. For more information on the events of the festival please visit http://www.emancipation.ca/.
