Recreational Fisheries Conservation Partnerships Program – Deadline Approaching
Owen Sound, ON – The deadline to apply for funding through the Recreational Fisheries Conservation Partnerships Program (RFCPP) is Friday, July 12th, 2013. The RFCPP was developed to support projects led by recreational fishing and angling groups, as well as conservation organizations, aimed at improving the conservation of recreational fisheries habitat.
Through the 2013 Federal Budget, the RFCPP has $10 million made available over 2 years. During the first year of the program (2013-14), $4 million will be made available for eligible projects. During the second year of the program (2014-15), $6 million will be available for eligible projects. Funds will be allocated through a competitive process.
“I strongly encourage all Sportsmen’s Association’s and other interested groups with an eligible project in Bruce and Grey counties to apply for funding through the Recreational Fisheries Conservation Partnerships Program,” said Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound. “Protecting and sustaining our local fisheries is certainly a priority for the Federal Government and this partnership will help to do so.”
The program will consider requests for funding of up to $250,000 per project per year. Applications can be submitted for new projects as well as projects that are already running that could use additional funding. In recognition of the importance of a partnership approach, at least 50% of project funding must come from a source other than the federal, provincial, territorial and/or municipal government. In kind donations such as labor and equipment along with monetary donations can be used to compose the applicant’s contribution to the project.
