Tory Friday Fundraiser Fills Bayshore

Owen Sound, ON – The fundraising dinner held Friday night in Owen Sound by the Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound provincial and federal riding associations was a success.

The event drew a crowd of 400 young and long-time Conservative supporters who packed a large Bayshore room to hear from federal finance minister Jim Flaherty and his wife and deputy leader of the provincial PC party Christine Elliott. During their speeches, Canada’s political power couple praised the local reps, MPP Bill Walker and MP Larry Miller for their hard work and community engagement.

“It was fantastic to host Minister Flaherty, who is one of the world’s most respected financial figures, and his wife and current deputy leader of the provincial PCs, Christine Elliott, Elliott who is critic to a number of key portfolios within our PC Caucus, in Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound,” Walker said. “We saw a lot of positive energy in the crowd that brought together a number of local business leaders, municipal councilors and party faithful. The broad-based support is rewarding and reinforces that our common policy approach about fiscal prudence is resonating at home.”

Prior to the gala dinner at the Bayshore, the minister and Ms. Elliott were hosted at the Tom Thomson Art Gallery in Owen Sound.

“We’re privileged to have what’s easily considered Canada’s best art collection right here in Owen Sound,” Walker said. “To us it was an important stop in the riding as the landscape images are an integral part of our culture and heritage in Bruce and Grey. Mr. Flaherty showed a keen interest in the art and stated he would have welcomed more time to view. Of course, I extended an invitation to visit as often as he would like.”

The riding associations said the event’s ticket sales were strong and they could have easily filled an even bigger venue.

MP Larry Miller attributed the evening’s success to the dinner’s strong team of volunteers and to the Flaherty-Elliott tandem star power.

“It was great to have Jim Flaherty and Christine Elliott here to enjoy some Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound hospitality. Jim is not only my colleague but my good friend. He has the respect of finance leaders around the world and it was my pleasure to have him and Christine speak to those in attendance,” said Miller.
